George C. Albrechtskirchinger '52 is causing trouble at University Hall these days, not because of any academic or disciplinary difficulties, but simply because his last name is just too long.
Unknowingly, Albrechtskirchinger has thrown a snag into normal University Hall operations because the machine room staff can't fit his name into course and grades lists.
The University's IBM machines allow 18 spaces for both last names and initials, and "this is usually more than enough," Cameron Lawrence, assistant to the Registrar, says. Not only was there no room for initials in Albrechtskirchinger's case, but it was also necessary to drop the final "r" from his 19-letter last name in order to squeeze him into the lists.
Dunster Difficulty
Meanwhile, at Dunster House, Secretary Marion Hambleton has been having similar difficulties over Albrechtskirchinger. Every other name fits neatly into House lists, but it takes not one, but two lines to squeeze in his.
Unaware of all this fuss, Albrechtskirchinger said yesterday that even in Germany, where he lived prior to this year, people had been having trouble.
