College-wide deconversion of overcrowded House and dormitory rooms to pre-war occupancy figures will begin at mid-term, Associate Dean Robert B. Watson '37, announced yesterday.

The program is part of the general paring down of the College from its present 5000 students to a figure of 4300. Watson explained that deconversion can start at mid-term because 192 House residents are being graduated and no additional students are being admitted to the College.

During the post-war years, Watson continued, an extra student was placed in almost every suite in the College, overcrowding dormitories and Houses by 51 percent of normal occupancy. Under the new program, when a senior moves out of one of these suites at mid-term, his roommates will have the choice of taking in another roommate or deconverting the room and paying more per person.

Freshmen Too

Freshmen will be able to deconvert by moving into rooms in Wigglesworth vacated by upperclassmen who move into the Houses and outside dormitories in February. Forty-eight upperclassmen living in the G, H, and I entries of Wigglesworth will be evicted to make room for the Freshman deconversion.

The program will naturally affect the number of upperclassmen now living in dormitories who can be admitted to the Houses in February. However, Watson said a "good number" will be admitted.
