The flapper girl is back at Radcliffe.

Shingled hair, close cropped, is the latest thing in coiffures, so the girls say, and the number of male-length haircuts on the quad is increasing daily.

Most of Radcliffe has come out in favor of the new hair crop. "I rather like the new hair styles, but I can't figure out why," stated Sue Smart '52. Not Kathy Greenman '53, however, who explained "I've always wanted to be a boy anyway."

Refuse to Conform

A few staunch supporters of long hair styles still refuse to conform. "I like short hair, but shingled haircuts do not look feminine," said Martha McCabe '53. Some students were even more irate. "Shingles on girls look worse than on roofs," said Ann Racder '51. And Nina Emerson '50 termed the new style "repulsive looking" and "masculine."

As for the men, they're ag'in it. "Black-view," they claim, "it doesn't make any difference, but front view!" Although a few are resigned to letting their girls make their own decisions, the majority likes its women--women.

"It makes the girls look like the guys, and I see too many guys," said Robert T. Hennes '51.
