The National Association of Manufacturers will spend close to $200 per minute to have the Band play for 15 minutes at its annual convention in New York on December 7, Paul B. Finney '50, manager of the Band, announced last night.
This announcement came as a result of the Band's concert before the Associated Industries of Massachusetts banquet in October. Influential members of the Association who were present were greatly impressed, and have since convinced NAM convention directors to spend the $3,000 which would be necessary to bring the Band to New York.
Waldorf Astoria
At first the plan was for the Band to play in the main ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria for one of the dinner meetings, but the 110 pieces would have made it necessary to limit dining attendance considerably. It was finally decided to have the Band play for just 15 minutes at the opening breakfast. They will travel to New York by pullman sleeper, leaving Boston Tuesday night.
Problems such as clearance with the New York Musicians Union and sanction from the University had to be solved before the invitation could be officially tendered.
