At 11:30 p.m. today, the varsity crew meets MIT and a Union Beat Club crew in an informal regatta on the Charles. It is the first time that the crew has even indulged in a fall race. Coach tom Bolles has not yet announced the makeup of the varsity boat.

The Boat Club crew, made up entirely of former Harvard varsity and jayvee to MIT and the College varsity, although the boat has only been together for a week. Lane Burton, stroke, was on its '46 crew; Frank Strong, at six, captained the varsity in '43. Don Felt, number four man, rowed on the crew in '48 and '49; Dick Emmet, number three, held a position on the varsity in '47 and '48. The balance of the crew, Bob Taggart at five, Nat Ober at seven, and bowman Hargo Hansen, were jayvees in '48 or '49. (Hansen in better known as Assistant Dean in charge of Sophomores).

Cox and coach of the crew is Sam Mactel, of the '48 varsity.

The flnish line is close to the Poppes pot bridge.

The race is being sponsored by the Union Boat Club, under the direction a Quinby Taylor, a Boston attorney. It is the club's sim to start up a topflight Union crew, and Taylor hopes that today's race may stir up interest in such a crew. The club would like to enter the American Honley races with a boat good enough it place--manned by newly-graduated MIT and Harvard oarsmen.
