Army Eleven Arrives in Hub Today

Cadets Will Work Out In Stadium; Valpey Holds Regular Drill

Army's vaunted football squad will arrive at Allston Station at 3 p.m. today and will head immediately for Soldier's Field, where it will hold a light workout.

The late arrival of Coach Red Blaik's charges will probably keep the Crimson from practicing in the Stadium. Usually the visiting team occupies the Stadium from 3 to 4 p.m. on Fridays and the varsity moves in a few minutes later. But Army won't get going until shortly after 3:30 p.m., and Art Valpey would rather use the precious daylight minutes working in the fenced in practice enclosure than waiting for the Black Knights to finish in the Stadium.

Regular Practice

Yesterday the varsity went through its regular Thursday practice, highlighted by five minutes--12 plays--of scrimmage for each unit.

Offensive and defensive units worked out at opposite ends of the field as coaches rushed to eliminate Crimson defects. Pass offense and defense were emphasized.

The squad also went through a kicking drill, with Chuck Roche, Carroll Lowenstein, and Carl Bottenfield doing the punting.

Army Plays

Valpey finished the day's practice by taking the team inside Briggs Cage for a brief explanation of West Point offensive tactics.

The team seemed buoyed throughout the practice and occasionally broke into laughter at Valpey's remarks.

Valpey still has not named his starting lineup for tomorrow's game.
