Failures in a few minor subjects will no longer flunk a student out of Princeton. Instead he will be judged on his over-all average.
Freshmen also get a break under the new Nassan program. They will be permitted lower grades than upperclassmen during their period of adjustment to the college.
According to Princeton officials, however, the new program does not make it any easier for a student to earn his degree. Most students who failed under the old system will also fall under the new one, they explain.
But Princetonians who fall a course no longer have to take an extra one to make up for it, and Princeton deans expect this to make life simpler for the border-line student.
