Peking College's Medical Outfits Hit Rural Areas

University of Peking students have been cooperating with the Rural Public Health Service of China for over a year with medical students performing as doctors and chemistry majors setting up makeshift diagnostic laboratories.

Hygienic investigations have been conducted along with the treatments, which reveal a heavy incidence of trachoma, dysentery, and conjunctivitis. At first, a student report admits, the peasantry were very suspicious of the investigators, but after a few cures were accomplished their confidence was won.

Direct attacks in neighboring villages have been made on pestilential water supply, unsanitary garbage disposal, and personal hygiene.

Success of the university four-man teams have been spread throughout the neighborhood, and now villagers come to Peking after trips of several days.
