Funsters Advance To First Place in House Basketball

Dunster House gained undisputed possession of first place in the intramural basketball league yesterday after whipping a scrappy Dudley quintet, 54 to 45. Joe Flynn led the victors with 21 points.

The Funsters' victory makes it impossible for second-place Winthrop House to overtake them, since the Puritans have only one more game to play, against Eliot on Thursday. The best Winthrop can do is tie.

In the House hockey loop, Kirkland defeated Leverett, 2 to 1, in a game that was close all the way. The Bunnies led, 1 to 0, at half-time, but Kirkland's forward line countered in the early minutes of the second period to even the score and then clinched it with another tally late in the game.

Wrestling Tournament On

Both the basketball and hockey series end this Friday, and next week the House volleyball and fencing tourneys begin. The House wrestling tournament preliminaries, which opened yesterday, will be continued today, with the finals slated for Friday night in the Blockhouse.

One of the two Yard basketball leagues has completed its schedule, and the other is slated to wind up this week. In League I, Mower Hall, undefeated in five games, holds the top slot, followed by once-beaten Matthews South.

In League II, Weld North, also undefeated, appears headed for first. Second place is still undecided, with five games left.

The playoffs, scheduled for next week, will see the second place team in each league play the winner in the other.
