John Carr, initiator of the M.I.T. unit and a veteran of occupation forces in Japan, stated that a nucleus was already organized and ready to carry the VAM banner at Tech.
Sponsors of yesterday's 57-man advertisement in the CRIMSON declined an invitation from Chicago to establish a formal chapter here, stressing "academic pressures."
California VAM
Meanwhile the Associated Press reported that 68 University of California students had formed a branch of VAM, declaring "Like General Eisenhower, we believe that military men should not seek political office."
The California group announced it followed in the wake of groups "at Harvard and Chicago."
Erroneous reports concerning a Harvard VAM were based upon a temporary decision early last evening to form one, later reversed, by a group of undergraduates.
