Radcliffe came to the rescue yesterday and boosted Brooks House's current blood drive well over the top of its 200-donor quota.

Announcement of a goal-topping total of 226 came last night from Botty Heaton '51, community service committee chairman.

Door-to-door soliciting by Annex community service committee representatives plus a signup booth in Agassiz House turned in 41 volunteers, more than double last year's number. Because of Health Center opposition, no goal was set for Radcliffe.

"Figured by total number of students, Radcliffe has a larger donor percentage than Harvard," Miss Heaton added, 186 had volunteered from the College.

Robert P. Hyde '51, co-chairman of the PBH drive, chalked up Harvard's comparative low turn-out to blood donation regulations. "Donors can't eat for four hours beforehand, and they can't have alcohol for a day before giving blood," he explained.

The volunteers will appear at PBH Monday and Tuesday from 12 to 6 p.m. for their blood donation appointments. Some drop is expected from the 226 pledged donors, but drive officials are counting on at least a 200-pint total.

The one-time "steak for a donor" plan will not be enforced at PBH, but donors will receive coke or coffee, ei-Chairman Hyde announced.
