Tech Suspends Eight Who Planned Stadium Blast; Ninth on Probation

Eight Massachusetts Institute of Technology students who plotted to interrupt the Yale game Saturday with a surprise explosion were officially suspended yesterday, and a ninth student implicated in the prank was placed on probation, MIT authorities announced.

In addition to the suspensions, the students will be required to pay costs of ripping up underground detonating wires buried early last Wednesday morning, Everett M. Baker, MIT Dean of students, announced yesterday.

Whether or not the students will be allowed to re-enter MIT if they petition for reinstatement will be up to a faculty committee, Baker said.

Reached at the Institute last night, the suspended students said they will apply for reinstatement at the end of their suspensions. Six will be out until February, with two others suspended until June.
