$1000 Prize for Music Composer

One thousand dollars will be awarded to the composer of the best quartet submitted before April 1, trustees of the Paderewski Fund for the Encouragement of American Composers announced recently. According to the conditions of the contest the instrumentation is limited to piano and strings, and each piece must take up at least twenty minutes of playing time.

Randall Thompson '20, professor of Music, will judge the competition with Richard Burgin, Associate Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and Francis, Judd Cooke, of the New England Conservatory of Music faculty. The entrants must be American-born citizens but no other requirements are set.

Complete details may be obtained at 290 Huntington Ave., Boston, or from the notices of the contest which are posted in Paine Music Hall and the Radcliffe Library. Prospective students are advised to indicate their intention of doing so as soon as possible.
