Harvard's yachtsmen defeated a team of 12 Radcliffe dinghy sailors yesterday to win possession of the shirts of three losers and of "The CRIMSON Challenge Cup."
Unfortunately for Pete Putnam and his crew, the "Cup" turned out to be an empty wine bottle, and the "shirts" were empty potato sacks.
In the picture above, Putnam, already in possession of the "Cup" closes his eyes and Betty Trygstad '52 (far right) watches intently as Rona Jaffo '51 (second right) starts to remove her "shirt" while Folicia Rood (second left) smiles.
Three Heats
The regatta was sailed in three heats. In the first, the six Harvard boats shut out the Radcliffe dinghies, taking the first six places.
In the second race, however, the Annex sailors threw a scare into the Harvard team, as they copped second, fifth, and sixth place. But the third race was just like the first, resulting in another Harvard sweep.
