The blare of Harvard trumpets will open the Radcliffe song contest November 16 when the University Band marches to the Annex quad to supply the annual competition with music and color.
Every dorm, off-campus house and commuter group may submit either words to an old tune or an entirely original composition. The winning song will appear in the Radcliffe Red Book as an official college melody, and the group presenting it will win the Song Contest Silver Cup.
The little trophy, which now serves Barnard residents as a milk jug, was won last year by "Wellesley Has a Muddy Lake."
This ditty, composed by Barnard's expert lyricists, was first played at a special Symphony Hall concert last December, and has been recorded by the Band.
