A new concept in graduate student housing will be featured in the proposed graduate center, scheduled to be completed on Jarvis Court, north of the Law School, in 1950.
"The graduate center," according to President Conant, "will bring the University close to its ideal of a community of scholars and students sharing their ideas and experiences informally in the classroom."
Already existent graduate dormitories, Hastings, Divinity, Andover, Conant, and Perkins Hall, which now house 450 students will be refurnished and integrated with the graduate center, which is expected to held 600.
The center will contain both single and double rooms. The singles will be 9 by 13 fact and equipped with desk, desk-chair, couch-bed, dresser closet and bookshelf. The doubles will be 18 by 13 feet, and will be designed so that they can be diviled by a curtain for privacy.
