"One of Britain's Charile McCarthys" was the way the Chicago Tribune described Clarence C. Brinton '19, professor of History, as the Trib continued its series alleging Communism in the University.
Brinton's latest book, "The United States and Britain," is "notable for its omission," according to the Tribune, and typical of a discussion Brinton might be expected to lead in the classroom.

In another story, the Chicago paper asserted that since newspaper often disagree with or ignore the extra curricular interests of instructors, there are some who believe that daily papers should be edited by the government.
The Trib labelled the Hutchins Commission on Freedom of the Press, on which three University professors served, as "unprecedented in the history of the United States for its assumption of privilege to encroach on the constitutional liberty of the American Press."
