'Lack of Time'-Causes '51 Group to Postpone Smoker Till March 23

Freshmen will have to wait an extra month for their long-heralded Smoker, the new committee in charge of the affair revealed yesterday. The date of the event has been postponed from February 27 to March 22.

The reason for the action, said Ralph W. Judd '51, newly-elected committee chairman, was the impossibility of "lining up topnotch entertainment" by February 27, the tentative date originally set by the Student Council. March 22 immediately follows the spring hour exams.

"Only as a last resort" will the committee decide on door charges, Judd asseried. At present, program advertising, supported by a Council loan, is figured to cover all costs.

Judd explained that Memorial Hall was chosen for the event because it is the largest nearly building in which smoking is permitted. Free cigarettes and beer will be supplied.
