The American tradition seems to demand that in the fall football shall be the only sport spoken of, but on the wired in acres across the street from Soldiers Field a half a hundred Crimson-clad athletes spend their autumn afternoons playing international football, or soccer as most call it.

Under the direction of James MacDonald and "Poley" Guyda, both former professionals and Olympic players, Varsity and Freshman teams each year materialize and generally pile up creditable records. Last year's Freshman soccer team lost one game in eleven.

This year the soccer players got off to an early start, beginning last Monday. So far only Varsity players have reported but Freshman coach Guyda awaits '51 with a well-grassed, newly-chalked field.

Every morning at 10 o'clock and every afternoon at 4 o'clock, practices are under way, and Yardlings are invited to participate. Official Freshman practice opens on Monday afternoon on the Business School Field, beside the Varsity area.

Prospective Freshman booters can draw equipment starting Thursday afternoon in the Dillon Field House at Soldiers Field.
