14 Reach Second Round of Tennis Tournament During Week's Matches

Fourteen more men advanced to the second round of the University singles tennis championships during the past week as summer athletics director Norman W. Fradd announced that Saturday would be the deadline for reporting second round matches.

At the same time, the tournament tally sheets showed that the doubles bracket--with less total entries than the singles--was proceeding at a slower rate with only three teams having reached the second round.

Coupled with a four-man advance past the initial round in singles play last week, this week's matches now leave only nine decisions to be made before the second round roster is complete.

Weather Fouls Schedule

All first round matches were supposed to have been finished Wednesday but poor weather held up several that were scheduled. The tourney has been conducted on a self-regulatory basis and Fradd said last night that he expected contestants to go ahead with the next round play if conditions were suitable. The third round deadline is August 27 and fourth August 30.

Former Varsity coach Bob Ashley, defeated in the singles last week by New England doubles champion Charles Keevil, sought revenge on Keevil successfully in the University doubles, dumping the latter and R. von Blen, 6 to 0 and 6 to 4. Ashley's partner was J. Anderson.

Also in the doubles tournament, T. Zinsser and E. A. Cohodes ousted R. Dolloff and F. David 6 to 0 and 6 to 2, while J. Zinsser and Wendell defeated A. Abothner and Nelson in love sets.
