An estimated 100 men and women from Harvard and Radcliffe attended the shouting down of Gerald L. K. Smith last Sunday, with about 35 actively assisting the Boston Youth Council and the remainder serving quietly as spectators.
Henry A. Mendelsohn '48, temporary president of the newly-chartered Harvard Youth for Democracy, (pictured above the first of two pickets carrying the "No Free Speech. . . . ." signa), led a small Square delegation that paraded with about 100 others before the doors of the Old South Meeting House, protesting Smith's appearance.
Scheduled to speak in behalf of his Christian Nationalist crusade, Smith was booed out of the ball--after an hour of trying to start his address--by the Youth Council supporters, who called Smith a Fascist and later approved a resolution condemming him for "stirring up racial and religious hatreds."
