Final plans for the construction of the Lamont Undergraduate Library, slated to begin after Commencement, have been disclosed by Keyes D. Metcalf, Director of the University Library. Releasing the finished interior blueprints, he hailed the structure as "a unique development in college building."

"It will be the first university library building whose primary aim is to meet the needs of the undergraduate," he continued, "and will differ radically from traditional library plans in many ways." A student committee participated actively in the planning.

The new building, which will occupy the present site of the Dana-Palmer House on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Quincy Street, was endowed by the gift of Thomas W. Lament '92 The library will house an extensive collection of undergraduate study materials, now scattered through such locations as Widener Library and the Union and Roylsten reading rooms.

Opening of the Lament Library is planned for the fall of 1948, and will relieve present crowded conditions in Widener.
