Winthrop, Leverett, Lowell, And Eliot Gain Crew Finals

Leverett Golfers Win

Preliminary intramural crew heats yesterday singled out Winthrop, Eliot, Leverett, and Lowell to compete tomorrow in the final inter-House regatta. Meanwhile, Leverett's golf team emerged victorious on the Lexington links, the baseball and softball marathons moved into their final week of torrid competition, and the House tennis torrid competition, and the House tennis tourney went into its third day on the Business School courts with the quarter finals coming up today.

Two heats were rowed yesterday on the Charles over the one and five-sixteenths Henley course. Winthrop and Lowell led the first heat with times of 7.26 and 7.28; Eliot and Leverett the second, in 7:26 and 7:31. A cross wind prevailed during the first race, shifting to a following wind in the second.

Adams Crew Banished

Kirkland and Adams trailed in the second race, with Adams suffering disqualification for leaving its lane. A lively debate was still raging last night as to whether the Deacons would have placed second without Gold Coast interference, and intramural director Adolph Samborski will convene with the House secretaries this morning in a special meeting to arbitrate the dispute.

Winthrop's baseball team in its last game this spring routed Lowell 14 to 3 behind the four-hit pitching of Steve Howe. In his first appearance on the hill this season, Howe struck out 17 and was credited with two assists and a put-out. His catcher handled the only other fielding chance in the ball game. Eliot in its final game with Leverett today must win to tie the Puritans for league leadership.

Crichton Hurls 9-Runner

In two softball tilts, Eliot finished strong to beat Adams, 15 to 9, while Dudley edged Kirkland, 12 to 11. It was the fourth straight for the Mastodons without a setback, as big Bob Crichton limited the Gold Coasters to single digits in notching his fourth win.

The Bunnies also wielded potent clubs in Monday's inter-House golf tournament to edge Adams, Winthrop, Dunster, Kirkland, Eliot, and Lowell in that order. Joe Gordon of Adams was high man with a 72, followed by Dick Drury of Leverett (78), and Tom Dolan of Winthrop (80). Weather clear and track fast was the word from Lexington, but high winds prevailed to harass the golfers.
