Varsity Nine Trips Columbia 13-6, for Second League Win

Crimson Scores Eight Runs on One Hit in Seventh to Give Brendon Reilly Easy Victory

The postponed Varsity baseball game with Boston College will be played off this afternoon at 4 o'clock at Chestnut Hill.

After six-and-a-half innings of a low scoring game yesterday, the Varsity baseball team led Columbia, 3 to 0, at Soldiers Field. Then a Lion relief pitcher lost control, the Crimson made eight runs on one base hit, and Brendon Reilly, Varsity hurler, weakened in the ninth inning.

When it was all over, Harvard had won a 13 to 6 victory over the Lions for its second successive Ivy League triumph.

Tellefson Starts for Blue

Red Tellefson, who started for the New Yorkers and was charged with the defeat, deserved a better fate. He pitched three-hit ball in the six innings he worked, but bad fielding by his teammates and a lapse in control allowed the Varsity two runs in the third and another in the fifth.

Two freak plays accounted for the first two scores. Tellefson walked Captain Jack Forte and Billy Fitz, and then threw four balls to Walt Coulson. As Coulson trotted toward first, catcher Bill Swiacki made the customary throw to third base. The heave sailed into left field, and Forte scored. Then, with one out, Len Lunder lofted a foul fly to left field which Bruce Gehrke unaccountably caught, allowing Fitz to score easily after the putout.

In the fifth, Billy Fitz singled sharply to right, and then circled the sacks when Chuck Klemovich allowed the ball to roll through his legs for a three-base error.

Tellefson was removed, for a pinch-hitter in the seventh, and the scoreless Lions sent Dick Lorenzen to the mound. Dick had trouble. He walked five batters, committed an error, gave up a two-run single to Coulson with the bases loaded, and before Bob Rosencrans could restore order for the Blue, eight Varsity runs were across.

In the eighth, Coulson's prodigious home run to deep right-center with Fitz at third produced the final two runs for the Crimson.
