William Murdock, Legislative Representative of the United Electrical Workers, and Sumner H. Slichter, Lamont University Professor, found themselves on opposite sides of the fence last night in a Liberal Union panel discussion on "Labor Legislation and Labor Peace" held in Emerson D.
Declaring that the power to strike is "a privilege and not a right," Professor Slichter asserted that "strikes dangerous to the public health or safety" should be outlawed.
Murdock sharply attacked current "anti-labor legislation," stating that such laws, if passed, would cripple the labor movement. "The right to strike is something labor has fought for and must continue to fight for," he pointed out.
