"President Conant should not be counted out in 1948," John B. Fisher '41, Director of the Republican State Speaker's Bureau in the 1946 campaign, told the Republican Open Forum yesterday at Winthrop House.
The University President's chances seem good, he implied, because of the weaknesses of the other party candidates for the nomination. As as example he pointed to former-Governor Stassen of Minnesota, whom he ruled out because of "strong feeling against him."
As for Senator Taft and Governor Dewey, Fisher predicted that each would cancel the other's strength, leaving the way open for such a ticket as California's Governor Warren for President and Massachusetts' Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. '24 for Vice-President.
The major part of the address was devoted to an account of the 1946 campaign in the Commonwealth. Fisher also noted the opportunities for would-be reformers in the City of Boston.
