Yale fencers meet both the Varsity and Freshmen in the Indoor Athletic Building today at 1 o'clock as the Crimson winds up its dueling campaign. The Freshmen lead off his afternoon with only two losses on their record, while the Varsity tries for its fifth victory in eight engagements.
Eli comes fresh from a meet last night with M.I.T., but predicting the results of today's match from past performances is difficult. West Point took the Varsity overwhelmingly, while Yale lost to the Cadets by a single tally.
The Varsity, however, arrived at the Point in poor condition after spending all night sitting up on a twelve-hour-late train. The Freshman clash is even more enigmatical.
Donald C. Van Roosen '45; Captain-Manager of the Varsity, declared "the team as psychologically set as it has ever been." He pointed out that John Gay, who was absent from the Columbia match, will be in the saber lineup. Jay Levine, Captain of the Freshman team, said his team had "a pretty good chance" with but two losses, both to Worcester. Both teams spent a prolonged period in their final practice before the season's most important meet.
The Varsity line-up: Foils--Van Roosen, Raney, Barricolli, Hubbard; Epee--Johnson, Duke, Masterson; Saber--Ellis, Edolman, Gay.
The Freshman line-up: Folls--Lewentin, Frankmann, Arp; Epee--Shade, Constable, Lewentin; Saber--Johnson, Levine, Murphy.
