Opening its season with a clash on foreign soil, the fencing team captured a 17 to 10 victory from Amherst College Saturday and evoked a "did better than I expected" comment from Coach Rene Peroy.

"No one was outstanding: they all did well," Peroy commented yesterday. He explained that Amherst had utilized only three outstanding fencers for all events, while he had followed a long-standing policy of using as many men as possible.

Peroy cited especially the foils competition, during which both Paul Edelman '46 and Jean Barricelli '45' took double honors. He also pointed out the three epee victories of Tom Masterson '49.

Apparently pleased by the outcome of the test he had regarded apprehensively on Friday, Peroy predicted that the squad "ought to do well" in its Saturday set-to with Brown in the indoor Athletic Building. Four months of regular practice sessions had worked wonders with a fairly green team, he stated.
