Yardling Quintet Rolls Over Short Bruin Five 54-48

A scrappy Bruin Cub quintet lost its fur to a dead-eyed Freshman five, 54 to 48, Saturday night in what turned out to be an open season on bears in the Indoor Athletic Building.

The cubs fought hard, clawed a sloppy Yardling defense to shreds, but were unable to capitalize on many of their scoring chances. The Freshmen on the other hand tallied almost every time the hoop came into their sights.

Neglect Height Edge

Coach Berg's aggregation made little use of its height over the smaller opposition. Ed Smith tapped in a few of his 22 points, high score of the evening, from under the basket but more often than not the Bruins outwrestled the Yardling forwards.

Most of the Freshmen's field goals were made on set shots from deep court. Speedy guard Fred Wegner popped in four of his eleven points on fast breaking passes under the basket but was often ignored by his taller teammates.
