Completing another step in the University's demobilization calendar, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences yesterday out to two the number of General Examinations offered yearly and ruled that beginning in 1950-51 only one set of Generals would be given each year.
The move, passed at the monthly meeting of the Faculty on the recommendation of the Committee on Educational policy, eliminated the wartime offerings of General Examinations in the summer term. Through the academic years 1918-49 and 1949-50 the exams will be given in January and May, while starting three years hence the tests will be offered only in May.
In commenting on the action, Provost Buck declared that it was "Impossible" to work up three good sets of examinations and that dropping of the wartime expedient would mean better tests generally.
