University students will help stock a Christmas ship destined for Scotland as all major dining halls, with the exception of the Medical School refectory, strike butter and wheat products from their menus tomorrow.

Edric A. Weld '46, president of the Students Council, said yesterday that Guenter Mattersdorff '48 had brought the proposal before the Council during Monday's meeting, after attending a Boston gathering of representatives from every major New England city and business firm which was concerned with contributing to the ship's cargo.

The idea took fire, and Weld carried it to Aldrich Durant '02, business manager of the University, who accepted the proposition wholeheartedly and gave his formal consent to its execution.

Under the plan, as outlined by Weld, the wheat and butter saved during tomorrow's temporary rationing will be picked up early next week and taken to a dock warehouse.

Mattersdorff, who had long been seeking this opportunity for University participation in a trans-Atlantic aid program, found the chance when Michael J. Kelliher, president of the Boston Chamber of Commerce, told him of the Christmas ship.

The Student Council appointed Richard W. Kimball '50 of North Andover and Eliot House to their ranks yesterday, Kimball was picked for his "outstanding ability, special skills, and particular knowledge complementary to the functions of the Council."
