College Bestows Permanent Rank On Orval Mowrer

Orval H. Mowrer has been named a permanent associate professor of Education, the university announced yesterday.

Born in Unionville, Missouri, Mowrer received and A.B. degree from the University of Missouri in 1929 and the Ph.D. form Johns Hopkins University in 1932.

After two years as a research fellow at Northwestern and Princeton, he served as instructor in Physchology and assistant professor of psychology at Yale from 1934 to 1940.

Mowrer was appointed an associate professor of Education at the University in 1943, but left soon afterwards for war service with the Office of Strategic Services in Washington. Yesterday's appointment made his rank permanent.

Mowrer has contributed numerous articles on psychology and the theory of learning to scientific journals.
