Two major changes in the Varsity lineup were assured last night when Dick Harlow outlined plans for the week.
The shifts are: 1) 19-year-old, 165-pound scatback Hal Moffie, who has been rotating between the second and third teams this fall, will definitely start Saturday against Rutgers; and 2) virtually every squad member with any previous center experience will be tried out at that position to determine a replacement for the injured Don Stone.
Fiorentino, Mazzone Possibilities
With Stone out for an estimated three weeks with injuries received Saturday against Dartmouth, and Chuck Glynn still wearing a cast on his hand, the Crimson center position at present is "non-existant," according to Harlow. "In view of the present situation, we are canvassing the squad to get anyone who has played center before." Ends Johnny Fiorentino and "Stretch" Mazzone both have high-school pivot experience, and may prove to be the chief contenders for the job.
Coach Harlow seemed particularly pleased with Moffie's breakaway running in the second half against the Big Green. "He opened this game up more than anyone else," Dick commented, "and he has earned a starting berth."
Post Mortems Out
Meanwhile, at the Varsity Club last night nobody was making alibis. "When you win by one point," said one of the first-stringers, "it's an important win. But when you're behind two touchdowns, you figure you've got to make three yourself to win. We weren't playing for a tie Saturday. We felt we could score three touchdowns in the second half the way we were going."
Most of the players considered the Big Green's fourth-quarter time consuming drive to the Crimson's five-yard line as the turning point of the game.
