WASHINGTON --Sen. Theodore G. "The Man" Bilbo, (D.), Miss., isn't going to stand for defeat, even if "it's a joke, son," and he gets $500-a-week for it.
Bilbo made this clear today when he turned down a Hollywood offer to play Senator "the Man" Leeds who loses a political victory to radio's booming-voiced, mythical Senator Claghorn.
"I recently defeated all of the Senator Claghorns from north of the Mason-Dixon line as well as four local potential Claghorns--peckerwoods," Bilbo snorted.
Besides, he said, Congress, over his objections, has just voted him $2,500 mere a year in salary and $2,500 additional for annual expenses. Furthermore, the folks back in Mississippi have just nominated him for another six years in the Senate.
