May Day Biggest Since 1941

Millions of labor unionists, Communists and leftist forces marched through the capitals of the world on May Day in the first large-scale celebration of the Communist holiday since 1941.

There were few disorders. The most spectacular occurrence was in Rome, where masked Fascist gunmen seized the master radio transmitter and for a few minutes sang Fascist hymns and cheered Mussolini.

Highlights of May Day were:

MOSCOW--Russia's newest tanks, rocket guns and artillery were unveiled in an eight-hour parade through Red Square past the tomb of Lenin.

NEW YORK--Eight marchers were arrested on charges of desecrating the American flag when they used it to collect coins in a parade down Eighth Avenue us 3,000 policemen stood guard and an estimated 100,000 persons marched.

TOKYO--Military police seized a suspect in the alleged plot to assassinate General Douglas MacArthur while a crowd of 300,000 demonstrated outside the Imperial Palace.
