Two fires of undetermined origin broke out within the University early this week, sending local fireman to extinguish fires in Little and Sever Halls, and causing $385 in damages.
A fire developing around a radiator in Sever 4 Wednesday drew a lunchtime crowd of 500 students who watched 11 Cambridge fire department vehicles and 30 firemen smother the small blaze. The fire was listed as of "undetermined origin" and damage was estimated at around $35. Before the situation was under control, heat from the conflagration and set off one automatic sprinkler in the basement below.
"You could of put it out by stompin' on it real hard," the janitor remarked when the trucks had left.
The Little Hall fire charred eight feet of wooden flooring and caused about $350 worth of damage on Tuesday morning before hook and ladder apparatus were called in.
Aldrich Durant '02, business manager of the University, stated that both losses were covered by insurance.
