Ohio State versus Harvard, and North Carolina versus N.Y.U.--these are the pairings for the N.C.A.A. semi-finals on March 21 at Madison Square Garden, decided upon by a drawing yesterday at the New York Sports Writers Luncheon. The Crimson-Buckeye game will be first on the evening program, beginning at 8 o'clock in order to enable the Varsity quintet to catch an 11 o'clock plane back to Boston after the game.
In a sense this will be reunion as well as contest for the Crimson; Coach Floyd Stahl spent eight years at the Columbus school as varsity baseball coach, while four of the Crimson Varsity hail from Ohio and played college ball there, though not at Ohio State.
Ohio Tops Big Ten
The Buckeyes will be entering their fourth N.C.A.A. tournament with a season record of fourteen victories and four defeats--good enough to win for them their fourth undisputed Big Ten championship. They have played against the Crimson only once, taking the measure of a far different Cantab squad 38 to 13 in 1936.
Tickets for the N.C.A.A. Eastern semi-finals and finals on March 21 and 23 are now on sale at the H.A.A. office at 299 Harvard Street.
Coach Harold "Oley" Olsen's team is a team of "iron men"; only rarely were more than six players used in any one game. Key men on the team are diminutive (5 feet, 8 inches), high-scoring (179 points) guard Ray Snyder and 6 feet, 6 inch center Jack Underman. Snyder has been chosen to play on the all-West all-Star team at New York on March 30; that team, incidentally, is coached by Ohio State's Coach Olsen.
