DARTMOUTH BALKS SWIMMERS, 47 TO 28

Coach Hal Ulen's Varsity mermen were back today from their weekend visit to the Dartmouth Winter Carnival, after suffering a 47 to 28 defeat at the hands of the Hanover swimmers. It was their first loss this season--they had previously beaten Brown and Exeter in home waters--and at the same time the sixth consecutive victory for the high-riding Green.

Handicapped by the recent loss through draft and graduation of 100-yard man Jay Gorman and diver Pete Steffens, the Crimson managed to cop first place in four of the eight events, taking the 50, 220, and 440-yard free style and the 440-yard relay.

Coach Ulen cautioned Crimson rooters not to expect too much from his charges. "They're pretty largely a Freshman team," he explained; "only one man is back from the pre-war squad. Next year we go back into the Conference schedule, and then things should start rolling."
