900 Non-Vets to Swell Freshman Ranks Next Year

More than 900 students from the nation's secondary schools will enter the College next September according to an announcement made yesterday by Richard M. Gummere, Chairman of the Committee on Admissions.

This figure represents an increase of about 200 men over the number permitted to register with the Freshman class from secondary schools this year. The now group is expected to compose nearly three quarters of the class of 1951, whereas the comparable group this year amounted to only two thirds of the Freshman class.

While giving no indication as to how many veterans applying for admission as a result of the GI Bill would be admitted to the class, Gummere stated that beginning with the class of 1951, all students except veterans would be required to register in September.

Next fall will mark the first time that a Freshman class has been required to enter the College in one group since the 1942.
