Big Five Veto Power Defended by Debaters In Victory Over Tech

Abolition of the United Nations Big Five veto power was defeated by the Debating Council in a meeting with M.I.T. Saturday night in the Eliot House Junior Common Room.

Edward F. Burke '50 and Jerrold P. Bahn '49 successfully upheld the negative of the question: "Resolved, That the veto power of the United Nations Big Five be abolished now." Judging the contest were A. G. Papandreou, instructor in Economics and Adam B. Ulam, teaching fellow in Government. This was the fifth Debating Council victory in the ten debates held thus far this fall.

Two members of the Council participated in an informal discussion with the Workers Socialist Party last night at the Party's Dock Square headquarters.
