Three hundred student employees of the University will receive questionnaires on wages, hours, and working conditions in their mails this week, George Bell '48, chairman of the Council Committee on Student Finance, disclosed yesterday.
Initiated in response to undergraduate requests to the Council, the poll will ask 1) whether the student is working out of necessity or merely for extra spending money, and 2) how many hours per week he is employed. A third section of the survey calls for opinions on hours of work and wages, and a general criticism of the jobs offered.
Bell pointed out that many of the complaints that have reached his committee center on the pay rate system that links itself with the board rate and finds the student employee receiving something less than 65 cents an hour.
