Adams Gridders, Funsters Tie As Deacons Win 14-0

Gold Coasters Stage Surprise Upset; Kirkland's Late Drive Snaps Deadlock with Dudley

Adams House provided the first major upset of the intramural gridiron schedule yesterday when thirteen stalwart Gold Coasters battled a hard-driving Dunster team to a 14 to 14 tie. On the adjacent field, Kirkland spuried in the last two minutes of play to score twice and down Dudley 14 to 0.

Rated as definite underdogs after last week's 12 to 0 defeat at the hands of Eliot, and having but two substitutes to alternate in a backfield already riddled with injuries, Adams maintained a 14 to 7 lead going into the fourth period but found themselves too exhausted to stem repeated Dunster thrusts at their goal line and had to settle for a draw.

High Scoring First Half

The Gold Coasters scored twice in the first half on passes to Al Coburn and Jack Torgen and led 12 to 7, while Dunster tallied on Bob Muller's pass to Owen Torrey after Chuck MacDonald's fine running had put them in scoring position. MacDonald plunged over for one of the crucial points after touchdown on a straight line play.

Adams blocked a punt in the endzone in the third period for a safety and two points and led 14 to 7 as the Funsters began their late drives which finally knotted the score. Dave Thompson did most of the carrying to set up Muller's flip to Jim Graham for a touchdown, and swept around the Adams left end for the all-important extra point.

Glynn, Sharpe Score For Kirkland

In the other game played yesterday, Kirkland and Dudley fought each other to a scoreless tie through three periods of play, the Deacons finally scoring with two minutes to go on a 20-yard off-tackle run by Jerry Glynn from the T-formation. A few moments later, with Dudley passing in a frantic effort to tie the score, Bill Sharpe intercepted for Kirkland and ran, 40 yards for another touchdown.

Bell booted the extra point for the Deacons, and threw a quick pass to Glynn for the second conversion.
