Untested Hockey Men Feel Oats With Purple Monday

Boston Skating Club To House Ice Match

Having only two practice games to back it up, the hockey team meets its first intercollegiate opponent, Holy Cross, Monday night at 7:30 o'clock in the Boston Skating Club. Following the main event the Jayvees will scrimmage with Medford High School.

Last Monday, Coach John Chase's men put up a valiant fight against two teams, those of the Boston Athletic Association and the Needham Club, despite respective thrashings to the tune of 7 to 2 and 12 to 5. Both outfits were made up of professionals and semi-professionals, including B.A.A.'s Austie Harding, formerly of Harvard.

Proposed Lineup

After the last warm-up, yesterday, the proposed opening lineup looked similar to the one used in the trial matches. John H. Knowles, NROTC, acting captain of the team until the formal election which will be held after the game, is slated as goalie.

Defense positions are to be filled by Bob Gardner and Bob Cowen, the latter having proved his worth, last Monday, as an ice as well as a gridiron star with some nice body checking. Cowen, incidentally, winds up his college career next month. Barry Carson and Bill Glidden will probably hold down the wingmen jobs, with Bill Ayres as center.

Despite inadequate practice and difficulties involving skating rinks, the icemen promise a good showing Monday. The Jayvee tussle is the same that was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and which was called off at the last minute.
