With a starting crew built around a nucleus of three holdovers from last year's outfit, Coach Bert Haines is now sending his Varsity shell into its last practice trials before its opening regatta on Saturday, April 28, against Navy and M.I.T., and the second race the following week against Cornell and Tech.
On the river only since March, the crew is expected to find though going in its initial appearances as it tackles a Navy crew which has been practicing all winter, and a veteran M.I.T. crew that is virtually unchanged since last spring. Competition for oars this season, however, has been keener than in the past few years, as only Coxswain Danny Paul, Tom Haymond, and John Kettelle return from the 1944 shell.
A complete lineup of the Varsity shell consists of the following: Stroke, T. S. Ross '48; 7, H. Grant '48; 6, J. D. Kottelic '46; 5, R. B. Perkins '47; 4, R. W. MacNamara '47; 3, T. Daymond '47; 2, M. C. Wambaugh '44; Bow, P. B. Roll '48.
