Civilian Teams Take Lead In Intramural League Play

Bellboys Defeat F-G, Keep Edge on Adams

With only two more games to play, Lowell cemented its hold on the top spot of the Intramural Basketball League last Friday afternoon by beating the NROTC Companies F-G quintet, 51 to 19. The F-G squad former league leader, has lost two of its last three games, sinking to third place; Lowell's most formidable rival now is the runner-up, Adams.

The Bellboys ran wild in a fast scoring spree that handed the F-G team one of

Team  Won  Lost Lowell  5  1 Adams  5  2 Company C  4  2 Companies F-G  4  2 Company D  4  3 Companies H-I  4  3 Standish  3  4 Company A  0  6 Company B  0  6

the worst drubbing of the season. Haskell of Lowell scored within a minute of the center jump, and went on to pile up 22 points. Haskell's total of points so far, 73, makes him league high-scorer by a wide margin. Hatton accounted for 16 of the Bellboys' points, while Clapp and Schacht led the ill-fated Navy squad.

Standish added another victory to its in-and-out record Friday, in a tense battle with NROTC H-I team. Tying the score at 28-28, the Freshmen forced the game into a five-minute overtime period and sank three baskets to the Navy's one, to make the final tally 34-30. Spanos and Baker sparked the Standout drive, and in the close overtime struggle the floor work of Wollins gave the Freshmen strong support.

Today Standish meets Company B, and Lowell has to defend its title against a dangerous Company C quintet. Tomorrow afternoon the Bellboys run up against Adams in what may be the decisive game of the year, and Companies A and B vie. The two NROTC squads face each other, and Company C will take on Company D Thursday.
