The Lucky Bag

Navy Supply Corps Midshipmen Officers School

After being undefeated and unscored on for three weeks (of course they didn't play any games during that time, but . . .) the Faculty softball team came out on the short end of a 12 to 5 1/2 score in its game with Company Two last week. We arrived at the figure by the use of an unweighted arithmetic mean. The faculty claimed the score was 9-5 the winners say it was 15-6. Professor Hansen calculated that answer for us so you can be sure it's right.

The second company used four full teams (Keebler's, Pryor's, Weaver's, and Matousek's). The losers stuck to their original lineup with one exception--after backing away from the game and obtaining the long range outlook, Professor Bliss took over the keystone sack.

Bill Peck and Perry Royce hammered out home runs for the middies, each coming with two men aboard. Peck's blow came in the first frame and gave the victors a lead which they never lost. Lieutenant Commander Salmon and Professor Nilsson were the faculty's leading hitters. Also starring for the faculty was Professor Bursk, who was all over the field . . . and we mean that literally.

The losers are accepting congratulations for: (1) Knocking Kennedy out of the box for the first time this season--he walked four men in a row. (2) Holding Weaver's Beavers to one hit in two innings after that worthy outfit had boasted that it was the hardest hitting team in the midshipman class. All of the members of the faculty are confident of an easy victory over Company One in their encounter tomorrow.

Plans are being made for a "big" beer-bust on Friday, June 28. Inasmuch as this follows our last final exam, it is expected that general approval will be given. The "new" Seniors will be guests. Chief guzzlers Ryan, Stecker, and Ringe, after testing their capacity at Jake Wirth's last Saturday, promise to give a good account of themselves.

Kelly Hunt, our silver-tongued Batcomm, is now known affectionately as "the Nose.' Shows what can happen when you keep your nose too close to the grindstone. Beavers, take notice!

Leader of the Wolf-Pack for this week: Herschel "Measles" Futral. (Or didn't you see him trying to steal Tom Gaines' girl at chow Thursday).

Bill "Dutch Boy" Jones isn't getting much cooperation in his maneuvering as a right guide. Several times lately he's been out in the middle of the drill field before he discovered that his squad was following a straight line, rather than him. The other members of the squad claim that it's easier to see the line than it is to see Jones.

Revised Quotations: If ignorance were Bliss, Stix would be a much simpler course.

Happy Thought: "C" day is only 18 days off.
