William Y. Elliott, professor of Government, has been appointed Director of the Office of Civilian Requirements of the War Production Board. Elliott had previously been director of the stockpiling and transportation division.
Succeeding Arthur D. White, who resigned in February to resume the presidency of Dunn and Bradstreet, Elliott becomes a vice-chairman of the War Production Board. In his new post, he is responsible for planning and scheduling consumer goods production.
In a policy statement, Elliott said that the highest priority must be given to a well balanced war program. Next in consideration comes the production of more of the most vital civilian goods, but the civilian program must not interfere with the production of munitions.
Elliott, a graduate of Vanderbilt and author of several books interpretating current history, commutes to Cambridge once a week to give Government 1a.
