While we are doing our best to keep the typewriter from floating away as the waves swirl around the room, weatherman Dick "Cobber" Shorrock assures us that this is only a light early-fall shower. It seems that the monsoon season around Boston doesn't start until late winter. In the meantime several bright and penetrating suggestions have been made to alleviate the situation.
Bright Ones
1) Dick Armstrong suggests extending the underground tunnel system to Cowie and Baker, or if this is not done, to run a boat service between these points.
2) From Charlie Gould and President Harry Magnuson comes a request that the board walks be taken up at 10:30 o'clock each evening and relaid each morning. Once down on all fours, Harry is a bit worried about who or what could get him up again.
Winds
Under the new regime some first rate drilling is being done over in the cage. This structure feels as though it would swell up balloon fashion any minute in these Charles River breezes. Battalion Commander Dave Schieder assured us privately that the structure is insured--as for us, well, we've stood through those industrial management classes so far.
Weekend
This weekend promises to be well filled with dances and such. First off this afternoon there's the affair at St. Ben's Center, then tomorrow, dances at Curry and Pine Manor (see Mrs. Inglis for reservations). We saw Professor Hanson about this former affair and he promises eider to all ensigns and light homework for all middies interested (see Mrs. Bonn for reservations).
Cigarettes
"Leech" White is reputed to have a store laid by for just such emergencies as these. See him if you're burning old slat reports in the brier like Bob Shepherd and others. Lenn White, that soft spoken friend of Professor Cunningham, gave us the word on the Sixth War Loan drive. After the little quiz yesterday, (answer rumored to be in the six hundreds), you'll know how to make the proper checkage. Buy bonds and make a down payment on one of Lt. Towne's special Hari Kari Kits.
