SCUTTLEBUTT

Flotsam and Jetsam

Dear Tula:

Well, here it is, almost a week since the N.T.S. Pop's Concert and I can still remember what a swell affair it was and how much fun we all had, not to mention the whole two and one-half ours added liberty.

I hadn't been out on a Sunday night that late for such a long time that I almost was afraid to stay out until 0030 so I got in at 0029. We took over the entire main floor and I mean we really filled it down to the last table.

The Glee Club sang and did a swell job with "Steal Away" and darn near did steal away the show ... The thing that did make a big hit with all the Lads seemed to be those tall, cool pitchers of claret punch and those snappy waitresses who seemed to be on hand just as the glass was empty ... The Music? Oh, yes, I drank that in too.

I saw BILL and REE PAGE with that still "newlywed look" talking to DUSTY RHODES and his Lil Gal, TERRY, but it seems to me that DUSTY is holding back on introductions to the Gang ... It could be that he has given her a sweetheart pin?

MERVIN LYSING finally brought out his wife who just got in from Minnesota and it's no wonder that he hasn't put in much time in Thayer N-68 of late ... He even played his room-mates the dirty trick of taking his radio over to the Lil Woman's Den.

CHESTER TRAVELSTEAD was trying his best to point out some of the technical features of the musical programme but I think I showed him a thing or two about the "Ste'n Song" ... hic.

I see by the papers that CHARLEY O'ROURKE might play football for us this coming season and it should be a real show to see him throw those passes for Navy like he did for B. C. When he made the All-American ... I suppose I still could tune in on the games while out on a life raft?

The Regimental Ball date for this month has been set for July 28th at the Statler Hotel ... the committee hasn't decided on who will play for the dance as yet but things are still cooking ...

A suggested theme for local laundries might be, "Why go elsewhere and wait? Leave your laundry here." ... Maybe I should be a little kinder to the laundrymen hereabouts for now they are nice enough to send me my buttons back ... Does your Dad need a former khaki shirt now a stop-light red for his V Garden scarecrow? ... I could let him have the one I just got back real cheap. I don't know when I could wear it unless I began selling cocoa coals on street corners...

I don't feel too bad about that shirt as does MILTON GERSON about a shirt he got back the other day ... he will have to gain 25 pounds before he can wear it ... at the present time he can turn about three times before the shirt even moves ...

Be a nice girl and write soon and I'd suggest that you begin putting new stamps on the envelope ... the Gov't will be getting sore.
