Last Friday's deluge brought with it approximately 80 tanned Officer Candidates to the Statistical School from Miami Beach. Perhaps they welcomed a little rain, but we were beginning to think that Nosh had nothing on us. It is too early to judge the attributes of the new potential 2nd Lieutenants, but on the basis of curbstone opinion, they show promise, both in a scholastic and military way.

The entire class and cadre attended the Harvard Commencement exercises in the University Yard on May 27 along with the other Army and Navy Schools in the University. Major John F. Heflin, Commandant, watched from the platform along with other Commandants of the various military and naval schools. The token certificate granted the Stat School by Harvard and presented by Major General Sherman Miles, was handed to Officer Candidate Donald B. Roble, who was designated to represent Class 9-43 for the ceremony.
Second Lieutenant Edgar Y. Kelsey, formerly Supply Officer of New England Aircraft School, was transferred to the Statistical School and designated the School Supply Officer, Transportation Officer, and Assistant Adjutant. Lieutenant Carlton L. Ericksen, in the meantime, has been named Adjutant, succeeding Captain Lyman L. Woodman, reassigned to another Headquarters. Captain Woodman, who for the past year has served as Executive Officer, Adjutant, and Instructor in several military subjects, was transferred this week to Headquarters, Boston Civilian Schools Area, AAFTTC, where his primary duty will be "Administrative Inspector." Since his arrival at the Statistical School in May, 1942, Captain Woodman has seen that correspondence and training records were kept up-to-date, that the students' personnel problems were taken care of, and that the detachment office was run smoothly and efficiently.
Although it is realized that his transfer means a duty promotion for the Captain, the officers, civilian faculty, cadre, and stenographers of the Statistical School will miss him. Since his new duties carry him only a short distance from Harvard, however, we shall expect to see him occasionally both in an official and social capacity.
